Vetements

French for ‘clothes’ and pronounced vet-MAHN; the new anti-fashion brand taking the industry by storm is being ran by Balenciaga’s new creative director: Demna Gvasalia. The Georgian-born, Antwerp fashion academy-trained designer has designed womenswear for Maison Martin Margiela and was the head designer for Louis Vuitton’s womenswear line. Demna, and his anonymous crew of experienced designer’s, head up the Parisian design collective and are moving against the traditional industry business model. Vetements has a strong celebrity following and has recently become extremely popular in menswear despite being a womenswear brand with the likes of Kanye West and Travi$ Scott donning the oversized sweats...

Vetements is non-seasonal, non-gender specificnon-thematic, and non-luxury. Although the materials are luxury, they aren’t lavish and extravagant. Vetements has become extremely sought after due to the limited production quantities and the good quality materials used. Vetements sweatshirts are made of molton cotton; heavy cotton that is almost 480g compared to your usual 240g hoodie. In an age where designers are repeatedly stating they're making clothes "for our friends", Vetements delivers deconstructed but wearable clothes that blend between street style and sportswear. The silhouette is oversized, the materials mainly everyday: leather, denim, and jersey. Fashion is moving away from typical fast fashion and into a more slow-fashion movement, buying less frequently, but investing in a piece that can be cherished and made into a staple part of your wardrobe.

I’m rocking the reversible women’s oversized sweatshirt from SS16; on the front of the sweatshirt you’ve got Vetements’ cheeky Champion-esque logo embroidered, and a smaller logo on to the left wrist. On the reverse side is Vetements’ Thrasher/Metallica-inspired motif. Two sweatshirts for the price of one!
