Stand-out Summer Shirting

Another graphically bold garment I wore this summer was this 1950's rockabilly style short sleeve shirt from Marc by Marc Jacobs' 'Resort 2015' collection. Bold shirts can be difficult to pull off, especially if like me you have pale skin, that’s never a good look. However by the pool whilst my skin was slightly more… lets say pink, I think it was the right time, and maybe the only time I could pull this shirt off...

Despite Marc Jacob’s discontinuing the Marc by Marc line, the Resort collection hosted a wide array of vibrantly bold short sleeve shirts all produced with interesting and alternative fabrics, so be sure to search through the sale racks for next summer or even a late summer vacation.

It's important when wearing a shirt as bold as this one to pair it with simple items: minimal detailing and neutral in colour. For this fit, I opted for the ‘chilled out by the pool’ look, wearing it with some lightly distressed denim shorts (originally an old pair of A.P.C's that I cut short and distressed) and a pair of classic Wayfarer's both to add to the vintage and rugged nature of the shirts motorcycle motif. Not safe for the office; a shirt this bold needs to be worn carelessly with a lively character and a devil-may-care attitude, so as you can see; I jumped in the pool fully clothed: just to show how much of a yolo kind of guy I am (…sarcasm).

Thrown on to go to the bar, or for lunch, this shirt is light and breezy and is an absolute summer statement. Alternatively, if not by the pool I’d pair this (or a similar stand out short sleeve shirt) with some black denim and Saint Laurent Wyatt Boots (which if you know me or have been following my Instagram; I have wanted these for a very long time). For evening wear; I’d rock it to a club or just for out drinks and if an extra layer is appropriate, wear the short sleeve shirt unbuttoned over a plain white t-shirt.
