Scotchtails, Borough Market

I recently checked out the famous Borough Market and realised I had been missing out by not going earlier! It had the best market food I've ever experienced and would most definitely recommend checking it out; however thats not specifically what this post is about...

Scotchtails - The BEST scotch egg you'll ever try!

The Traditional Cumberland - An artisan runny golden egg wrapped in a beautiful cumberland sausage with a crispy layer of breadcrumbs, served on a fresh bed of rocket and an optional portion of sweet potato fries, this combination is heavenly.

A scotch egg is traditionally a hard boiled egg, however Scotchtails' scotch eggs (bit of a mouthful) is closer to a perfect poached egg. When it is cut into and placed on that bed of rocket the lava like golden yolk runs down the side of the sausage and bread crumbs and dresses the salad (#FoodPorn). The sweet potato fries are sweet and crispy and are up there with some of the best I've ever had. It was genuinely one of the nicest lunches I've had in a really long time.

The scotch eggs are made in Hackney and are currently only served at Borough Market. Their menu is somewhat limited with the Traditional Cumberland being their staple creation. But they do have an alternating 'Scotch Egg of The Day' with past fillings being; Sweet Potato Falafel, Pork & Red Onion, Sweet Chilli Pork, Chorizo, Mature Cheddar & Smoked Bacon to name but a few.

The prices are:

£4.50 for Scotch Egg and Rocket
£3 Sweet Potato Fries
£6.90 Meal box

I can't easily articulate just how essential it is that if you're living in London and you haven't tried it - you're missing out; and if you're visiting you NEED to try it!

Be sure to check their website out http://www.scotchtails.com/ for trading hours.

  1. Mmm that looks just delicious. You can't beat a good scotch egg...or perhaps you can if you pair it with sweet potato fries!
